Animal Care Technician

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Review, comprehend, and comply with all SOPs, IACUC policies, safety, and quality assurance standards related to assigned work area.  
  • Daily husbandry of the rodents in the vivarium to include the provision of feed, water, clean cages, and enrichment. 
  • Basic sanitation and maintenance of colony rooms to include sweeping and mopping of animal quarters, rotating animal cages, racks and room supplies for cleaning according to schedule, disinfecting all areas in room.  
  • Monitor the health of the animals and report any sick or dead to the PVC and room lab contact staff.  
  • Receive and house shipments of animals. 
  • Bedding sample collection for sentinels; assist with sentinel program procedures as needed.  
  • Maintain accurate documentation records as required; including room logs.  
  • Monitor room conditions including temperature, humidity, room and rack airflow, and lighting; with timely reporting of any issues to facilities.  
  • Maintain adequate PPE, PVC kit, and other common room supplies by monitoring levels, and restocking as required.  
  • Monitoring of animal health, and perform procedures such as teeth trims, antibiotic treatments, animal handling, euthanasia, and other simple procedures as certified trained and as required.

Data Scientist/Engineer

Job Overview:

Laboratory Operations Assistant I

Job Overview:

The Lab Operations team will provide hands on support to Research Staff and Operations.  Support includes, but is not limited to, biological tube prep labeling, sample QC, sample shipments, solution prep, maintaining inventory levels of communal supplies, centralized companywide ordering for supplies and animals.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Tube capping
  • Tube labeling, including racking and filling tubes with PFA, NBF, RNAlater, or any other solution as called for in study protocols.

Laboratory Operations Manager

Job Overview:

We are seeking a Laboratory Operations Manager who will have an opportunity to grow and develop a team to organize and support all aspects of laboratory operations.  The team is responsible for organizing the wet labs, overseeing inventories (including purchasing) and sample management.  The Laboratory Operations Manager will be the point of contact for research staff to go to for supply procurement, biological sample collection prep, shipping, etc.  The ideal candidate will be a strong manager,  self-motived, organized, possess the ability to prioritize and multitask and be able to work collaboratively with study directors and research staff.

Key Job Responsibilities: 

  • Managing the Operations team on a day-to-day basis, providing a bridge between study directors and junior lab assistants to ensure tasks are completed accurately, on time.  Working closely with study directors to understand research needs, having the ability to evolve and optimize the team accordingly.
  • Establishment and implementation of laboratory operations SOPs
  • Ensuring that the wet lab is always inspection ready, being the point of contact for the wet labs during due diligences and onsite audits.
  • Defining and setting up processes to streamline sample inventory and tracking inhouse.
  • Actively collaborating with other cross-functional departments and clients/consignees as needed.

Materials Management Technician

Materials Management (MM) Technician position in support of PsychoGenics (PGI) vivarium operations. MM tasks are performed in compliance with PGI Animal Care and Use Program Description, according to Animal Welfare regulations, AAALAC International standard, PHS OLAW Assurance, and NJS regulations.  

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Adhere to and comply with established standard operating procedures related to assigned work area.  
  • Maintain cage wash operations in meeting daily workload requirements, to include cleaning and preparing animal cages, providing caging supplies filling cage and caging supply requests, and maintaining other vivarium equipment for use and cleaning processes.  
  • Operate cage wash, bottle washer, water filtration systems, autoclave, and floor scrubbing machines properly following safety guidelines.  
  • Maintain and sanitize cage wash equipment and machines, cleanliness of cage wash rooms, and cleaning and sanitization of assigned vivarium areas.  
  • Maintain adequate personal protective equipment, and room supplies in work area by monitoring levels, and restocking as required.  
  • Assist with environmental monitoring, and pest control programs.  
  • Maintain accurate work area documentation, and room logs, vivarium experimental rooms, and support areas, monitor room conditions including temperature, humidity, and lighting as required.

Quality Assurance Specialist

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

The Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist will report to the Vice President, Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs and IO, to assist in providing a critical interface between the scientific community, research support, and training activities, ensuring accordance with federal, state, local and Institutional requirements. The QA Specialist will serve as a liaison of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), assisting the IACUC Chair and IO in the role of IACUC Coordinator, assuming an administrative and professional role that will require continuous contact with individuals at all levels of the organization on a variety of complex issues.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Conducts post-approval monitoring of rodent behavioral and technical procedures in alignment with approved IACUC protocols in an AAALAC International accredited facility, conducts in-life QC inspections of study test procedures for compliance and conformance to the approved IACUC protocol, the final study plan, and SOPs.
  • Performs audits of study specific and facility related documents such as study plans, study raw data, and final report audits for accuracy and completeness, verifies that the final report accurately reflects the raw data generated.
  • Reviews and maintains up-to-date SOPs and controlled documents, oversight of SOP Manager system, participates in training activities, conducts audits of employee training records.
  • Recommend changes or modifications to vivarium and laboratory procedures to facilitate compliance with PsychoGenics Program Description, IACUC protocols, program methods, and SOPs.
  • Support and assist the IACUC Chair with the direct oversight of the protocol review and approval process, providing administrative support to the Committee, and accurate and timely IACUC correspondence.
  • Oversees all aspects of the IACUC review process from initial protocol submission by the scientific staff to final approval. Providing timely and accurate guidance to Investigators on preparation and submission of new protocol applications, protocol amendments, and/or revisions, and providing initial reviews for accuracy, completeness and compliance with company policies, Institutional requirements, and State/Federal regulations prior to submission to the IACUC.
  • Prepares and distributes meeting agendas and compliance related materials for committee review, oversees the recording and production of official minutes of all IACUC meetings, performs editorial review of minutes to ensure proper documentation of IACUC actions, maintains current IACUC policies and protocol documents in the company files and in the IACUC data manager system, oversees training documentation of staff’s protocol and SOP review.
  • Conducts inspections of facilities, vivarium, and laboratories, evaluates current practices and procedures. Coordinates and participates in IACUC semi-annual facility inspections, assists in preparation of inspection records, and evaluation of current practices and procedures.
  • Collect and compile information for annual regulatory report preparation.
  • Promotes company polices and operating procedures, to maintain a compliant and safe work environment.
  • Maintains a current awareness of EPA, FDA, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations, and any other related NJ state and Federal regulations which may apply to company activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by QA management.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biological or Life Sciences, or related field, or Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology, with at least 3 years relevant IACUC and/or professional experience in animal research, or veterinary medicine, or a Master’s degree with at least 2 years work experience.
  • Working knowledge of AAALAC, PHS OLAW, and AW regulations, Federal regulations, and state laws related to IACUC and animal welfare governing live animal research. Familiar with EPA, FDA, GLP regulations, and commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the QA field specific to preclinical rodent research.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, to work under supervision, to work independently with minimal supervision, and to work effectively as a team member.
  • Focused and well-organized with strong attention to detail. Good problem-solving skills and ability to multitask, and re-prioritize as needed on short timelines.
  • Familiarity with animal research protocols, post approval monitoring, and IACUC procedures.
  • Must possess the ability to read and understand scientific documents such as animal research protocols, regulations, and policies. Must be able to record and maintain essential records for a regulated environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and customer service skills including the ability to interact effectively with a diverse essential population.
  • Proficient computer skills: including MS Office applications, MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, and data manager systems.
  • Essential to display sensitivity to the confidential nature of IACUC and QA work. Ability to function in a fast-paced, high growth work environment, exercise good judgement, and possess a positive attitude.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), as integral to this role will be scheduled visits to areas and the facilities where IACUC approved activities occur.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AALAS certification at a LAT (Laboratory Animal Technician) or higher level.

Research Associate - Neuropharmacology

Overview of Position: 

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Associate in neurodegenerative disorders.  The successful candidate will work in a team of scientists and researchers supporting preclinical studies using rodent models. The primary responsibilities of the candidate will include, but are not limited to, dosing animals, conducting behavioral assessments for neurodegenerative disorders, and dissection and tissue collection.   • test article dosing using various routes of administration (IP, SC, IV, PO)

We are looking for a highly motivated Research Associate in surgery.  The successful candidate will work in a team of scientists and researchers supporting the preclinical studies using rodent models and tests.  The primary responsibilities of the candidate will include but are not limited to conducting preclinical research using various surgical procedures primarily in the area of pain, animal disease model, and other drug discovery assays as needed.   • Bachelors or Masters degree in life sciences, neuroscience, or psychology
  • 5+ years of laboratory experience with rats and/or mice
  • 2 – 3 years minimum experience with extensive and relevant rodent surgeries and/or with a variety of tissue collections, or in vivo pharmacology with rats and mice
  • Rodent dosing experience (PO, IV, IP, SC, ICV etc.)
  • Able to work well in a group atmosphere as well as independently
  • Good organizational and troubleshooting skills
  • High level of commitment, excellent motivation to perform and learn
  • Able to comprehend and comply with all SOP and IACUC, safety and quality assurance protocols
  • Computer skills on Microsoft Office and graphing/statistical software
